Bombay High Court Revokes Indrani Mukerjea’s Permission to Travel Abroad

Bombay High Court Halts Indrani Mukerjea’s Travel Plans Amid Murder Case Controversy!

The Bombay High Court has overturned a trial court’s decision that allowed Indrani Mukerjea, a central figure in the Sheena Bora murder case, to travel internationally. Justice Shyam C. Chandak ruled in favor of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which challenged the trial court’s earlier approval of Mukerjea’s trip to the UK and Spain for ten days over three months.

Mukerjea, a former media executive, is accused of murdering her daughter, Sheena Bora, in 2012. The trial court had granted her permission based on an email from her legal representative in the UK, citing essential legal and financial matters that required her presence abroad, including settling taxes, updating her will, and reactivating a joint bank account in Spain.

The email detailed specific needs for her travel, such as amending her will to remove her ex-husband, Peter Mukerjea, as a beneficiary, and completing biometrics at Banco Sabadell Atlántico in Marbella, where her account had been inactive.

During the hearing, Shriram Shirsat, the special public prosecutor for the CBI, opposed the travel request, referencing information from the Ministry of External Affairs. He contended that the tasks outlined could be managed from India without necessitating Mukerjea’s presence abroad.

In contrast, Mukerjea’s counsel argued that Spanish civil law required her physical attendance for these matters. They also requested that if travel was permitted, the trial court should be allowed to adjust her case schedule accordingly.
