Bombay High Court Halts Customs from Destroying Seized Artworks by Souza and Padamsee
MUMBAI: The Bombay High Court has temporarily prevented the Customs department from destroying artworks by celebrated artists F.N. Souza and Akbar Padamsee, which were seized last year on the grounds of being deemed “obscene material.”
A division bench of Justices M.S. Sonak and Jitendra Jain reserved its order on a petition submitted by B.K. Polimex India Pvt Ltd, owned by local businessman and art enthusiast Mustafa Karachiwala. Further proceedings will determine the fate of the seized artworks.
