Supreme Court Grants Extension to Chhattisgarh and Bihar Governments in Baba Ramdev’s FIR Case
The Supreme Court granted additional time to the governments of Chhattisgarh and Bihar to respond to Baba Ramdev’s plea seeking the clubbing and quashing of FIRs filed against him two years ago regarding his contentious remarks on allopathic treatment for Covid-19.
Justices MM Sundresh and PB Varale, presiding over the bench, extended the deadline for filing counter-affidavits, emphasizing the urgency of the matter, which has been pending since 2021. Ramdev’s petition requests the transfer of FIRs from Patna and Raipur to Delhi.

The court scheduled the hearing for July, following the summer holiday break. The case revolves around multiple FIRs filed against Ramdev by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) chapters in Bihar and Chhattisgarh for his criticism of allopathic medicines during the pandemic.
The IMA alleges that Ramdev’s statements could undermine Covid-19 control efforts and discourage people from seeking proper treatment. Ramdev faces charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Disaster Management Act, including sections 188, 269, and 504.
