Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Plea: Supreme Court Considers Interim Relief Ahead of Polls

Supreme Court Reviews Arvind Kejriwal’s Bail Petition Amidst Election Context

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convenor, is currently the focus of Supreme Court proceedings regarding his bail petition. The court expressed its openness to considering interim bail for Kejriwal in light of the upcoming polls. Urging the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to be prepared for the hearing, the court emphasized the importance of both sides being informed, stating, “We may grant or we may not grant. But we must be open to you as neither side should be taken by surprise.”

Kejriwal has been in judicial custody in Tihar Jail since his arrest on March 21. The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on April 15 regarding Kejriwal’s plea and sought their response. On April 9, the high court upheld his arrest, citing his repeated refusal to cooperate with the investigation and attend summonses.

The case revolves around allegations of corruption and money laundering related to the formulation and execution of the Delhi government’s now-defunct liquor excise policy for 2021-22.
