Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal Moves Court Against ED’s Complaint, Set for Hearing on March 16
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed a challenge in the sessions court on Thursday against two summons issued by a magisterial court in response to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) complaint regarding the alleged liquor policy scam.
The ED lodged a complaint asserting that CM Kejriwal failed to comply with the agency’s summons regarding a money laundering case linked to the now-defunct policy.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Divya Malhotra of Rouse Avenue Court issued the second summons to CM Kejriwal on March 7, scheduling a hearing for March 16 to address both the ED’s initial complaint and the subsequent one.
CM Kejriwal’s appeal is expected to be heard later in the day by Special Judge Rakesh Syal of Rouse Avenue Court.
ACMM Malhotra previously granted CM Kejriwal a day’s exemption from appearing in court on February 17 concerning the first ED complaint regarding the same issue.
The second complaint revolves around Kejriwal’s alleged failure to comply with summons numbered 4 to 8, as per a source familiar with the matter.
Previously, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader had requested the ED for a date post-March 12 for questioning related to the excise policy issue, in response to receiving summons for the eighth time on February 27, mandating his appearance by March 4.
ACMM Malhotra had acknowledged the first complaint on February 7, issuing summons for Kejriwal’s appearance on February 17.
