A team of 12 members from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, at his residence in Civil Lines, North Delhi, this evening, in connection with the 100 crore liquor scam. The ED team arrived at his residence and initiated questioning after the Delhi High Court declined to grant Kejriwal protection from coercive action in a case related to the excise policy earlier today.
In response, Kejriwal has filed an urgent plea in the Supreme Court challenging the Delhi High Court’s decision. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the case on Friday morning. Earlier in the day, a division bench of the Delhi High Court considered Kejriwal’s request for interim relief from coercive measures against him, disputing the summons issued by the ED in the excise policy case and questioning certain provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). However, the High Court declined to grant such relief at this stage.
Outside Kejriwal’s residence, Section 144 has been enforced as supporters and leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gather to express their solidarity. Security has been heightened around the Chief Minister’s residence in Civil Lines, with Rapid Action Force (RAF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Delhi Police personnel deployed, and barricades erected along the lane leading to his official residence. Kejriwal has been summoned by the ED for the ninth time in connection with the excise policy case.
