This follows a prior high-level meeting held by Amit Shah on Friday with senior MHA officers in New Delhi to discuss the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Another detailed meeting has been scheduled for June 16 to further address the issue.
The urgency of these meetings is driven by recent terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, raising concerns about the region’s law and order situation.
During Sunday’s meeting, Shah directed for a detailed follow-up meeting on June 16 at North Block. This upcoming meeting will include the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, the National Security Advisor, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from the Army, police, Jammu and Kashmir administration, and the MHA.
Officials briefed Amit Shah on the current security conditions and the readiness to respond to terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Since June 9, terrorist attacks in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda have resulted in the deaths of nine pilgrims, one CRPF jawan, and injuries to a civilian and at least seven security personnel. Enhanced security measures are being focused on protecting the people of J&K, including Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, and maintaining peace and order in the region.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a top-level meeting to discuss the security situation in the region following the recent terrorist incidents. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
During this meeting, Modi received a comprehensive update on the current efforts to combat terrorism in the area. He was informed about the strategies and actions being taken to address terrorist threats and ensure the region’s security. PM Modi also discussed the deployment of security forces and ongoing counter-terrorism operations with Home Minister Amit Shah. He further spoke with J-K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to assess the situation and received updates on the measures taken by the local government.
