Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the need to intensify the campaign against Left Wing Extremism (LWE) during a review meeting in Nava Raipur
He stressed the importance of cutting off financial resources and weapon supplies to Naxalites. The meeting, attended by senior officials from seven Naxal-affected states, focused on strategies to combat LWE, inter-state coordination, strengthening security forces, speeding up investigations and prosecutions of Naxal-related cases, and fostering development in Maoist-affected regions.
Shah highlighted that the fight against LWE is at a crucial juncture and reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating the threat by March 2026. He urged for a doubling of efforts and speed in anti-Naxal operations to achieve complete eradication.
The Home Minister also directed Chief Secretaries of affected states to conduct bi-weekly reviews of development projects in LWE areas, stressing that continuous monitoring is essential for success. He mentioned that while the surrender policy for Naxalites should remain flexible, precautions must be taken to prevent its misuse.
Shah further suggested that states should transfer the investigation of inter-state Naxal-related cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). He also called for a united effort to combat the ideology of leftist extremism and to communicate the government’s stance firmly yet respectfully to all sections of society.
Notable attendees at the meeting included Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy CM Vijay Sharma, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai, and top officials from Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Maharashtra. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, the Directors of the Intelligence Bureau and NIA, and the Director Generals of CRPF, BSF, SSB, and ITBP also participated.
