AIIMS Doctors to Stage OPD Protest Outside Health Ministry Over Kolkata Doctor’s Murder
The Resident Doctors Association (RDA) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi has announced a continuation of their strike in response to the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. While the strike will persist, the RDA has assured that emergency services and intensive care units (ICUs) will remain operational.
In a new phase of their protest, the doctors will set up an elective outpatient department (OPD) outside Nirman Bhawan, which houses the health ministry. This demonstration is scheduled to start at 11 am on Monday.
The RDA stated that the elective OPD will offer services across 36 specialties, including medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, ophthalmology, and orthopedics. The initiative is intended to provide patient care in line with the doctors’ commitment to their Hippocratic oath and to highlight the urgency of the issue at hand.
The protest aims to draw attention to the safety and security concerns faced by medical professionals, following the recent devastating incident in Kolkata.
