AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan Sent to Four Days ED Custody in Waqf Board Money Laundering Case

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Monday sent AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan into four days of ED custody in connection with a money laundering investigation related to alleged illegal recruitments and other unlawful activities involving the Delhi Waqf Board

Khan, the 50-year-old legislator from Okhla, was detained by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He is scheduled to appear before the court again on September 6.

During the hearing, the ED requested 10 days of custody, citing the need to confront Khan with other suspects and evidence. The investigation against Khan is based on two FIRs—one by the CBI concerning alleged irregularities in the Waqf Board and another by the Delhi Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) relating to alleged possession of disproportionate assets.

The ED claims Khan obtained “substantial proceeds of crime” through unlawful recruitment practices within the Delhi Waqf Board and used those funds to acquire property in the names of his associates.

The agency has alleged that under Khan’s leadership as Waqf Board chairman from 2018 to 2022, illegal recruitments and unfair leasing of Waqf properties resulted in personal financial gain.

In January, the ED filed a chargesheet naming Khan’s alleged associates, including Zeeshan Haider, Daud Nasir, and Jawed Imam Siddiqui, among others.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expressed strong support for Khan, accusing the BJP of using the ED to target its members. AAP stated on X, “Revolutionaries will not bow to dictatorship. The BJP’s ED has arrested AAP MLA @KhanAmanatullah in a false case. The more they try to silence us, the louder our voices will become.”

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva criticized AAP, stating, “The Aam Aadmi Party harbors a long list of criminals and corrupt individuals. Every time action is taken against them, they cry foul. Today, that drama is once again on display for everyone to see.”
