AAP Holds Key Meetings to Select New Delhi CM After Kejriwal’s Resignation

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has scheduled a series of crucial meetings, including one with its Political Affairs Committee (PAC) on Monday evening, to decide on a new chief minister for Delhi

This follows Arvind Kejriwal’s unexpected decision to step down from the position.

Senior AAP leader and former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia met with Kejriwal at his official residence to discuss potential candidates for the chief ministerial role, party sources said. Later in the evening, the PAC meeting will be held at Kejriwal’s residence to deliberate on the matter.

Names circulating as potential successors include Delhi ministers Atishi, Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Assembly Rakhi Birla, and even Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal.

Kejriwal announced his resignation as chief minister while addressing AAP workers at the party headquarters on Sunday. Facing corruption allegations, he stated that he would not return to the role until the public “certified” his honesty. He added that both he and Sisodia would only resume their roles when people affirmed their integrity.

Kejriwal, who was recently released on bail in the excise policy graft case, said he would soon convene a meeting of AAP MLAs to decide his successor. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to frame him with false corruption charges, claiming that the BJP’s inability to provide quality services like good schools and free electricity stemmed from their own corruption. He maintained that AAP leaders remain committed to honesty.

During his Sunday address, Kejriwal criticized the BJP for targeting non-BJP chief ministers with false cases, urging those arrested to continue running their governments from prison. He explained his own decision not to resign after his arrest as a sign of respect for democracy and the Constitution. He further claimed that AAP is the only party capable of standing against the BJP’s alleged conspiracies.
