NGT Demands Timetable for Waste Management Overhaul in Kedarnath

NGT Orders Uttarakhand to Outline Timeline for Waste Management in Kedarnath

NEW DELHI: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has instructed the Uttarakhand government to provide a timeline for implementing effective sewage treatment and solid waste management facilities in Kedarnath.

This directive came during a hearing on a petition claiming that untreated sewage was being discharged into the Mandakini river, contributing to significant pollution due to inadequate solid waste management.

To assess the situation, the tribunal had previously established a joint committee, which includes the member secretary of the Central Pollution Control Board, the district magistrate of Rudraprayag, and representatives from the regional office of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change in Dehradun.
