On Tuesday, a court remanded the fourth individual arrested in connection with the murder of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and ex-Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique to police custody until October 21.
The suspect, 23-year-old Harishkumar Nisad, was apprehended in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, and is accused of contributing to the conspiracy behind Siddique’s murder by providing financial assistance.
Police revealed that Nisad, a scrap dealer in Pune, financially supported the assassination plot, which necessitates further investigation into the nature of these financial transactions and their sponsors.
Previously, the police had arrested Haryana resident Gurmail Baljit Singh (23), Uttar Pradesh native Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19), both believed to be the shooters, and Pune-based “co-conspirator” Pravin Lonkar. All three are in police custody until October 21. Another alleged shooter, Shivkumar Gautam from Bahraich, remains at large.
Baba Siddique, aged 66, was fatally shot on Saturday night outside his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Nirmal Nagar, Mumbai. Despite being rushed to Lilavati Hospital, he was declared dead upon arrival.
