Man Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Drug Trafficking

GONDA (UP): On Tuesday, a local court sentenced Hira Lal Maurya to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for his involvement in drug trafficking. The verdict was delivered by Additional District Judge Surya Prakash Singh in the Fast Track Court.

Special Public Prosecutor Anupam Shukla confirmed the ruling, noting that the court found Maurya guilty of serious drug-related offenses. In addition to the prison sentence, the judge imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Shukla further clarified that if Maurya fails to pay the fine, he will face an additional two years of simple imprisonment.

The court also stipulated that any time Maurya has already spent in custody during the trial will be counted toward his overall sentence. This decision underscores the judiciary’s commitment to addressing drug trafficking, a growing concern in the region. The case highlights the serious consequences of engaging in drug-related crimes and serves as a warning to others involved in similar activities.
