Justice Manmohan was sworn in today as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. The oath was administered by Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, in a ceremony attended by Delhi’s newly appointed Chief Minister, Atishi.
Justice Manmohan, a graduate of Campus Law Centre, began his legal career after enrolling with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1987. He was designated as a Senior Advocate in 2003 and was appointed as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in 2008. The following year, in 2009, he became a permanent judge of the same court.
On November 9, 2023, Justice Manmohan took over as acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. His elevation to Chief Justice was recommended by the Supreme Court Collegium, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices Sanjiv Khanna and BR Gavai, on July 11, 2024. His appointment was officially confirmed by the Centre on September 21.
Chief Justice Manmohan’s tenure will continue until his retirement, scheduled for December 16, 2024.
