Nation in Crisis: Rescue Operations Underway Amidst Rising Casualties
A catastrophic wave of floods and landslides has struck Nepal, resulting in a rising death toll of 112 over the past 24 hours, as reported by the Armed Police Force (APF) and Nepal Police. Tragically, 68 individuals are still unaccounted for, and around 100 others have sustained injuries due to the disaster.
The hardest-hit areas include Kavrepalanchowk with 34 fatalities, followed by Lalitpur with 20, Dhading with 15, and Kathmandu with 12. Other affected districts include Makwanpur, Sindhupalchowk, Dolakha, Panchthar, and Bhaktapur, with additional casualties reported in Dhankuta, Solukhumbu, Ramchhap, Mahottari, and Sunsari.
Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak emphasized the extensive damage inflicted by recent heavy rains, particularly in the Kathmandu Valley. In response, the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police have mobilized search and rescue operations nationwide.
“The rainfall has caused significant loss of life and property across the country, especially in the Kathmandu Valley. We are currently gathering information on the damages, and a disaster command post meeting has been convened,” Lekhak stated in a press briefing.
