Bharatpur Police Inspector Agrees to Narco Analysis Test Amid Assault Allegations
Suspended Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Dinakrushna Mishra of Bharatpur Police has agreed to undergo a Narco Analysis test to assert his innocence in a case involving the alleged brutal assault of an Army officer and his lawyer-fiancé. During a hearing in the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s court on Wednesday, Mishra maintained his innocence, stating, “I am not involved in the commission of the offences as alleged against me.”
Mishra expressed his willingness to take not only the Narco Analysis test but also Polygraph and Brain Fingerprinting tests, asserting that his consent was given voluntarily. The court accepted the prosecution’s plea for these tests, acknowledging Mishra’s willingness to undergo them.
In the incident that sparked public outrage, the Army officer and his fiancé visited the Bharatpur police station on September 14 to file a complaint regarding a road rage incident. Allegations surfaced that they were subjected to torture, with the lawyer claiming she was sexually assaulted while in custody.
In response to the mounting criticism, the Odisha Police suspended five officers, including IIC Dinakrushna Mishra, on September 19. Other suspended officials include Sub-Inspector Baisalini Panda, Assistant Sub-Inspectors Salilamayee Sahoo and Sagarika Rath, and Constable Balaram Handa.
The court noted that the alleged incident occurred inside the Bharatpur Police Station around 2:00 AM, highlighting the challenge of gathering evidence as the events unfolded without any eyewitnesses. The court emphasized the importance of using scientific methods to aid the investigation, stating, “As the events occurred within the police station, scientific methodology may provide a clearer direction for the investigating agency.”
The court has directed the investigating officer to conduct the tests in accordance with standard operating procedures and submit all medical reports promptly, reinforcing the necessity of uncovering the truth in this sensitive case.
