PM Modi Reiterates Support for Peaceful Resolution in Ukraine During Meeting with Zelenskyy

On Monday, PM Modi held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, reiterating India’s stance in favor of a swift resolution to the Ukraine conflict and a restoration of peace and stability.

Zelenskyy acknowledged the evolving relationship between India and Ukraine, highlighting their commitment to strengthening cooperation. After the meeting, Zelenskyy expressed gratitude on X (formerly Twitter) for India’s support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of the UN’s Summit of the Future and marked the third bilateral interaction between the leaders this year. Modi later took to X to reflect on their discussions, emphasizing India’s commitment to implementing the agreements made during his visit to Ukraine last month. He reiterated India’s stance on resolving the Ukraine conflict through diplomatic means and engaging all parties involved.

Zelenskyy also highlighted their talks about enhancing cooperation on international platforms like the UN and G20, and preparing for a second Peace Summit while implementing Ukraine’s Peace Formula.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the leaders expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of Modi’s recent trip to Ukraine. They extensively discussed the ongoing situation and pathways to peace, with Modi affirming India’s readiness to offer any support within its capacity to facilitate a peaceful resolution of the conflict.

PM Modi’s visit to Kyiv in August came shortly after talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in July. During his Ukraine visit, Zelenskyy proposed hosting a peace summit in India amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine crisis. Modi affirmed India’s commitment to peace efforts, stating that India stands on the side of peace and is prepared to contribute to ending the conflict.

During Modi’s recent U.S. visit, he also reaffirmed India’s support for Palestine during talks with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized that Modi’s meeting with Zelenskyy demonstrated India’s commitment to contributing toward a peaceful resolution, highlighting Modi’s deep concern over the conflict’s human toll and its broader impact, especially on the Global South.
