Woman Lawyer Found Dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj; Colleagues Demand Justice

Lawyers Demand Justice and Safety Measures for Women After Tragic Incident

The mutilated body of a woman lawyer, who practiced at the Kasganj district court, was found floating in a canal in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday. The lawyer had gone missing on September 3 after leaving for court that morning but never returned. Her scooter was later discovered parked near the court.

According to her husband, she was supposed to meet someone that day, but after failing to come back, a missing persons report was filed, prompting the police to initiate a search operation. On the evening of September 4, a local villager alerted authorities about a woman’s body washed ashore in the Hazara Canal, Kasganj.

In response to the tragic incident, the district bar association at Kasganj called for a strike. Lawyers also held a protest and submitted a memorandum to the district authorities, demanding ₹1 crore in compensation for the victim’s family.

The Supreme Court Women Lawyers Association condemned the killing and called for stronger legal measures to ensure the safety of women lawyers across the country. In a statement, the association urged government agencies and public and private sector institutions to install fully operational CCTV systems in all workplaces, including at entrance gates. Such measures, they emphasized, would not only aid in investigating crimes more effectively but also play a vital role in ensuring the safety of women.
