Uncertainty Remains as Search for Remaining Wolves Intensifies in Bahraich
In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, a forest department team has successfully captured four wolves that had been terrorizing over 35 villages. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining two fully grown male wolves, according to officials involved in the rescue mission, dubbed ‘Operation Bhediya.’ Chief Forest Conservator Renu Singh confirmed that while four wolves have been caught, uncertainty remains regarding the exact number still on the prowl.
The pack of wolves is responsible for eight fatalities over the past month and a half, with the most recent attack occurring between Monday and Tuesday night. Using advanced technology like thermal imaging drones, the forest department has been actively tracking the wolves in the floodplain areas.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath praised the forest officials for their swift actions to protect the local communities. Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Wildlife) Sanjay Srivastava reported that one wolf was captured around 10:45 a.m. in Sisayya village after intense efforts and the use of physico-chemical immobilization techniques. The hunt for the remaining two wolves continues.
The operation is being carried out by 16 teams, including 12 district-level officers. On Wednesday, Forest and Environment Minister Dr. Arun Saxena and other senior officials visited Bahraich to oversee the ongoing efforts.
Despite the progress, authorities remain cautious, as the total number of wolves in the area is still unknown. The operation is being closely monitored as efforts to secure the region continue.
