CBI Raids Ex-RG Kar Hospital Principal and Others in Financial Probe

CBI Conducts Raids on Former RG Kar Medical College Principal, MSVP, and 13 Others Amid Investigation into Alleged Financial Irregularities Following Nationwide Protests

CBI officers initiated search operations on Sunday at the premises of former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh, former MSVP Sanjay Vashisth, and 13 others in and around Kolkata. The search is part of an investigation into alleged financial irregularities at the institution, officials said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) anti-corruption unit is also scrutinizing the homes and offices of individuals involved in supplying materials for patient care and management.

Around 7 officers have been questioning Ghosh at his Beliaghata residence since 8 am, while others are interrogating Vashisth, the former medical superintendent and vice principal, along with a forensic department professor from the hospital.

The CBI team, accompanied by a large contingent of central forces, arrived at Ghosh’s residence at 6 am but had to wait for about an hour and a half before gaining entry, officials noted.

Another team of CBI officers searched Ghosh’s office at the hospital and visited the canteen in the academic building.

This investigation follows the tragic rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee woman doctor in the hospital’s seminar hall on August 9, leading to the arrest of a Kolkata Police civic volunteer. The incident sparked nationwide protests by doctors and the public.

The CBI was directed by the Calcutta High Court to register cases related to both the murder and the alleged financial irregularities at the hospital.
