Former Member of Parliament Prajwal Revanna has been remanded to judicial custody until July 8 by a Bengaluru court, following the completion of his police custody in a molestation case.
Special Magistrate KN Shivakumar had initially sent the suspended Janata Dal (Secular) leader to the custody of the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is investigating charges of sexual abuse against him. These allegations surfaced after more than 2,900 videos depicting the sexual assault of multiple women were widely circulated, including on social media platforms.
Legal Proceedings and Arrest
On April 28, a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged against Prajwal Revanna and his father HD Revanna under IPC Sections 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (insult to modesty of a woman) at the Holenaraseepur town police station in Hassan district, based on a complaint filed by one of the victims.
The investigation was led by Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer BK Singh. Prajwal Revanna had fled to Germany shortly after the April 26 Lok Sabha polls in Karnataka, but upon his return to India on May 31, he was arrested and subsequently handed over to SIT custody.
He was held from May 31 to June 10, June 13 to 18 for a second rape case, and until June 24 for a third case.
