In a tragic turn of events on Saturday, a tempo traveller carrying 23 passengers met with a fatal accident on the Rishikesh-Badrinath highway near Raitoli in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district. The vehicle veered off the road and fell into the Alaknanda River, resulting in the loss of at least 12 lives.

The incident occurred amidst picturesque yet treacherous terrain, prompting an immediate response from the State Disaster Response Force and local police. Rescue operations were launched swiftly, with teams working tirelessly to recover survivors and manage the aftermath of the tragedy.

Reports indicate that some individuals who were standing on the roadside sustained injuries as well. Medical teams have been actively engaged in providing emergency assistance, including airlifting injured individuals to AIIMS Rishikesh for urgent medical treatment.

Reacting to the heartbreaking news, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. He emphasized the gravity of the situation and directed the district administration to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the accident.
