Supreme Court Bar Association Election Sees Six Candidates Vying for Presidency

Six Lawyers, Including Kapil Sibal, Contend for President of Supreme Court Bar Association Election

Six lawyers, including one woman, are vying for the position of President in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) in the upcoming elections for the Executive Committee.

The contenders for the President’s post are:

  • Senior Advocate Adish C Aggarwala (the current President)
  • Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal
  • Senior Advocate Priya Hingorani
  • Senior Advocate Pradeep Kumar Rai
  • Advocate Neeraj Srivastava
  • Advocate Tripurari Ray

The elections, scheduled for May 16, will also determine the Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer positions.

Sibal’s candidacy marks his return to the race after more than twenty years. He previously served as SCBA President in 2001-02 and has held the position twice before that, in 1995–1996 and 1997–1998.

Incumbent President Dr. Aggarwala secured victory over Senior Counsel Dushyant Dave last year.

Rai brings prior experience as Vice President, and Srivastava was a candidate in the previous year’s election.

The Supreme Court mandated in a May 2 order that at least one-third of the Executive Committee posts in the SCBA should be reserved for women. As per the directive, three executive members, two senior executive members, and the treasurer position will be reserved for women in this year’s elections.
