Amit Shah Fake Video Case: Telangana High Court Orders Halt on Coercive Action Against Congress Workers

Telangana High Court Halts Coercive Action Against Congress Workers in Fake Video Case Involving Amit Shah

The Telangana High Court recently issued an order prohibiting any coercive action against Indian National Congress workers implicated in a case involving a fabricated video of Union Home Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah.

In a ruling dated May 3, Justice B Vijaysen Reddy directed both the State and Delhi police to refrain from taking any coercive measures against the Congress workers. The Court specifically instructed that Respondent No.5, presumably referring to the Delhi police, should withhold any coercive actions based on notices under specific sections of the Criminal Procedure Code until further notice.

However, the Court clarified that its directive does not obstruct the State’s investigation into the matter.

Additionally, the Court mandated the Commissioner of Police of Hyderabad, the principal secretary (Home), and others to submit their responses to the plea filed by the Congress workers.

The plea was filed by Congress workers Manne Sathish, Asma Tasleem, Ambala Shiva Kumar, Pettam Naveen, Koya Geetha, and Pendyala Vamshi Krishna, contesting a case lodged against them by the Delhi police following a complaint by Shinku Sharan Singh.

The petitioners are accused of disseminating a manipulated video clip of Home Minister Amit Shah on social media. The video allegedly suggested that reservations for Scheduled Castes/Schedule Tribes (SC/STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) would be abolished if the BJP remained in power at the Centre.

On May 3, the Hyderabad Police arrested several members of the Telangana Congress party in connection with the case. The accused were subsequently granted bail by a local court under certain conditions, including providing two sureties worth ₹10,000 each and appearing before the investigating officer every Monday and Friday until further notice.

Advocate Thoom Srinivas represented the petitioners in court.
