Menstrual Leave Policy for Students: Students Granted Monthly Leave on Self-Certification Basis, With Maximum of 5 Days per Semester
The Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai has recently sanctioned and put into practice a ‘Menstrual Leave Policy for Students’.
Under this policy, students experiencing menstruation will be entitled to take one day off per month when classes are held, based on self-certification.
Additionally, the policy specifies a maximum of five Menstrual Leave Days (MLDs) per semester.
Further details of the policy include:
- Students can request Menstrual Leave by self-certification, submitting a physical application to the Student Affairs department within seven working days of seeking leave.
- Menstrual Leave cannot be utilized during mid-semester exams, end-semester exams, class tests, viva voce, or any other examination.
- The University reserves the right to reassess leave requests in case of policy misuse.
- The policy will undergo periodic review for potential modifications or enhancements.
This policy comes into effect from April 4, 2024.
It’s worth noting that several other National Law Universities (NLUs), including MNLU Aurangabad, NLIU Bhopal, DNLU Jabalpur, NALSAR Hyderabad, and NLUJA Assam, have previously implemented similar menstrual leave policies for their students.
