Supreme Court Questions NCPCR’s Focus on Madrasas
NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court raised concerns on Tuesday regarding the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) and its singular focus on madrasas. This inquiry followed the commission’s statement that students from these institutions were unable to pursue careers in medical and engineering fields.
Chief Justice of India (CJI) D. Y. Chandrachud, along with Justices J. B. Pardiwala and Manoj, made these remarks while reserving their verdict on petitions challenging a ruling by the Allahabad High Court. The high court had declared the 2004 Uttar Pradesh law governing madrasas unconstitutional, citing a violation of secular principles.
